DIY: Swiffer Refills

I love my Swiffer wet/dry mop and with 4 kids I use it a lot.  In my quest to be greener (saving money and repurposing things) I have made my own Swiffer refills.  So here we go.

You will need:
  • An old tshirt, night gown, etc.  The older and softer the better.
  • Sewing machine (if you don't want your fabric to unravel) and thread
  • Scissors
  • Container for your refills (I'm using a cute wipes container)
I have some great old night gowns that my mom gave me and since they have a lot of fabric they are what I'm using.  Cut your fabric into 11in x 9in pieces.  If you have a serger (I'm jealous) just serge along the sides.  If you don't but you don't want your cloths to unravel in the wash, sew a zig zag stich close to the edge and you're done!

My kids love to Swiffer.  This way they can as many times as they want (without me spending an arm and a leg on refills).  The old tshirts really pick up the dirt and the dog hair (her favorite spot is to lay under the table).  If you want to mop with it just use a spray bottle to squirt your favorite cleaner on the rag and the floor.  When you're done you can just toss it in the laundry.

You can use these for just about anything, not just for your floor.  They make great dusters and they are perfect rags for little helpers.  Happy cleaning!
