Food for Blog: Homemade Applesauce

This recipe is based on the one in the Better Homes and Gardens New Cookbook (1930-2000 Limited Edition).  It was so easy to make and absolutely delicious.  The kids liked it so much they wanted to make more and give it as gifts for Christmas.  Looks like we will be headed to the store for more apples and canning jars!

You will need:
  • Approximately 9 medium apples- peeled, cored and quartered
  • 1/3 to 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1 cup of water
  • Cinnamon (optional up to 1/4 teaspoon)
  • Food processor or potato masher
After you peel, core and quarter your apples put them on the stove and add the sugar, water and cinnamon.  Bring to a boil, reduce heat, cover and simmer for 8 to 10 minutes.  If you have a food processor get it set up while they are cooking.  Once they are done, spoon them into the food processor and pulse for about a minute.  Stir and check consistency.  Pulse more if necessary.

Now for the best part, eating it!  We only have one jar left and we made it yesterday.  We will certainly be making more.  The best part is watching the kids make something and then wanting to share it with others.
