Food for Blog: Cream of Wheat

If you don't eat Cream of Wheat or maybe you had some a long time ago and thought it was icky, you must not have had mine.  We have it at least once a week for breakfast.  I get lots of requests for it.  There never seems to be enough when I make the largest serving the box suggests.  So let me tell you the secrets to making it really yummy.

First of all I don't ever make it with water.  I always use milk.  Heat your milk on the stove until almost boiling.  Stir constantly because you don't want to scorch the milk on the bottom of the pan.  Add the amount of Cream of Wheat for the serving size you are making.  Slowly stir it in and continue stirring.  You want the mixture to boil up so that you can stir it down-repeating the process until it is smooth and creamy.  The wheat needs to absorb all of the milk.  If there are little grains keep going you are almost there!  Just a minute or two longer and it will be done.  (You can follow the microwave directions just make sure to really watch it so that it doesn't boil over and make a mess, oh and stir a lot.)

Now you can either put the following deliciousness into each bowl or the whole pot.  I like to do each bowl and let the kids stir up their own.  To make it really yummy I add butter and brown sugar.  They both begin melting on the top and when you stir them in...heaven!  It is a warm and filling breakfast that is perfect for those chilly winter mornings.
