Mom to Mom: Car Potty

"Mom! I need to go potty!" All fine and dandy when you are at home or someplace with a bathroom. But what about when you are at the park or on a road trip? I try to plan for those times but lets face it sometimes they just need to go. Solution- a car potty. I know what you're thinking-ewww, gross! It's not really, I promise. Cleaning up after your kid has peed in their pants is way worse, really worse, or if they don't make it and pee in the car...

We have a potty with a lid on it and the removal pot. I really think these 2 things are key. This way it doesn't get dirty when you are storing it in the back of the car and with the removal pot you can easily dump the pee. Most of the potty's for sale have the removal pot and this can be the potty you use to potty train with. Eventually your kid will just use the regular toliet. This repurposes the $10-$15 you spent :). You will also want to keep wipes on hand (most of us do I think) for wiping and hand sanitizer.

Ellie used the car potty yesterday at the park. I put the potty in the passenger seat, she peed, wiped and then threw her wipe in the trash while I found a far away tree to water. If you have a van or suv you can set up your "bathroom" back there, but it is less private. Make sure to use the wipes to wipe the potty out or it could get gross sitting in the hot car. I would not recommend a number 2. For all sorts of reasons. However in a real pinch putting a plastic bag over the pot part would create a removeable poop potty! That could get pretty ewww, we've never done it.

We didn't have to leave the park, there were no accidents to clean up and it was more sanitary than going at Walmart (which was our next stop). I can count the number of times we've used this on one hand but with 4 kids I'm pretty sure my counting will eventually include my toes. I hope this is useful for you. Happy accident free outings!
