DIY: Painted Towel Holders

Ok so I am sort of a spray paint junkie.  In the kids bathroom there is ONE towel holder and its high up and in the shower.  I wanted something fun and bright to match the playful, colorful theme in the bathroom.  Really I just didn't want to pick up towels off of the bathroom floor anymore or have the kids standing on the edge of the bathtub and either falling or pulling the shower curtain down.  No one has fallen yet, but the shower curtain has come down about 3 times and Ellie just leaves her towel on the floor.

I bought two five dollar white towel holders from Target and thought "I can't just put up white towel holders."  So I spray painted them crimson red.  Another ten minute DIY with fabulous spray paint.  I could tell you that I'm handy and hung them up myself but I totally had my husband do it.  We also hung them at a kids level.  No more excuses from my kids and less laundry for me!

Here is the before.  Functional but no pizazz.
Red glorious red.

And now to get some cute teal towels!  I'm over the blue.

  1. Very cute! I'm thinking of spray painting our old boring silver towel racks black. Question: does the paint come off on the towels when they are damp? I'm so worried about ruining our nice towels.

    1. I haven't had any paint rub off on our towels. I would say to make sure they dry completely after painting them black and then doing a couple of clear coats just to be safe. I have had a few nicks, which I expected having four kids, but overall they have held up really well. Good luck! I would love to see how they turn out!
