Food for Blog: Easy, Delicious Sauteed Green Beans

You would think that green beans would be healthy but it is somewhat debatable with mine. They are delicious and are the perfect addition to a steak and homemade mashed potatoes.

You will need:

  • Enough fresh green beans for the amount of people you are serving. The best tasting come from your own garden or the farmers market. Maybe 15 per person, less for kids.
  • Butter, 2 heaping tablespoons (I use SmartBalance, its super yummy)
  • Garlic, fresh or minced from a jar (no powder) approximately 1 teaspoon or 3-4 pieces minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
I know a simple ingredient list right? First put the butter in your skillet on low with the garlic. While that starts to cook, wash and trim the ends of your green beans. Once the butter and garlic are warm and the garlic is starting to brown (and smell delicious) add your green beans and then your salt and pepper. Saute on low to medium heat until just tender. You don't want them to be under done and too crunchy but you also don't want them to be limp and squishy. It takes anywhere from 12-18 minutes depending on variables like heat and how many you are making. Enjoy your sort of healthy vegetable. They really do compliment homemade garlic mashed potatoes and steak, so more on how we do those dishes next week.
