[Im] Patient

Regan is sitting on the the table reading a book with applesauce hands while Jack is crankily nursing and Ellie "cleans up" in the bathroom.  Amidst the chaos and toys I am trying to be patient.  Someday they will all be in school and I will be home, lonely and missing their littleness (well at least for the first 5 minutes or so).  So many times I tell myself to just be patient, the day will come when they are all more independent  than dependent.  But it is hard sometimes and I struggle.

Eventually the kitchen will be cleaner and laundry done on a more consistent basis.  Besides who doesn't love a singing toddler on their table who drapes themselves in ribbon and applesauce and sings joyfully while reading and playing with the salad bowl and tongs your husband left on the table?  I'm trying really hard to be patient and not uptight.  I know they don't care about the shoes in the floor or the multiplying fingerprints on the patio door.  They will remember the times we jumped on the trampoline and what stories we read and how I let them make lunch even though it took a few extra minutes.

If I am impatient I miss the importance of now and this moment and I will never be satisfied.  I could miss the opportunity to teach them something invaluable.  Impatience is easier, selfish and childlike.  Patience is learned and some days the lesson is easier to grasp than others.  Today I am keeping my cool and being patient.  Hopefully the older wiser I get the greater my patience will be.

Here is our first picture of the six of us.  Whenever we take pictures I always have low expectations.  That way if we get something halfway decent I'll be happy.  I think we did pretty good for the first one and on top of that it was a wonderful day.
